This workshop is designed to for you to push and test yourself as you navigate in low-light conditions over a roughly 350-acre area. You are encouraged to bring and use night vision. You must have completed LTAC’s Land Navigation Series - Two-Day Basics Workshop or an equivalent prior to taking this workshop.
At 4 pm, with the start of class, we will review the principles of Land Navigation. We will cover magnetic north, true north, and magnetic variation (declination). You will learn about terrain association. Students will get an opportunity to check and confirm their pace count. After covering these fundamentals, the class (as a group) will go through all the steps and find a point. We will also give a lecture on moving at night.
Students will be given multiple points to plot and find over the 350-acre training space. The mixed terrain has large, open areas and wooded areas. As it gets dark, students will be launched to find their points. Working at night makes everything different -- a whole new experience. This is an excellent opportunity to better understand how to use your Night Vision Devices.
