LODESTONE
"Lode": Old English "lād," which means "way, journey, course."
“Stone”: Old English "stān", same meaning as the modern term "stone.“
“Lodestone”: naturally occurring magnets, which can attract iron. Pieces of lodestone, suspended so they could turn, were the first magnetic compasses.
